Get the most out of your mobile

Nawras encourages you to use your mobile phone and other mobile devices in a responsible manner. The following tips on mobile phone usage while driving and mobile etiquette will help you to get more out of your mobile and enjoy a pleasant mobile communications experience!

Driving & Using Your Mobile

  1. Driving in cars while talking on the phone can be dangerous not only for you, but for other drivers and pedestrians. Mobile phones should be switched to voice mail when you are driving. If you have a passenger, ask him / her to manage your mobile calls for you.

  2. Only Emergency Calls should be made / received when on the move.

  3. Please make or receive calls – even with a hands-free kit – when you are safely parked away from the road. Make or take a hands-free call only when you are certain it is completely safe to do so. Keep your conversations short and easy - end calls that become difficult, distracting or stressful immediately.

  4. Please do not use mobile phones in filling stations.

  5. All motorists are responsible for the safety of themselves, their passengers, other road users and pedestrians. Please do not try to use a hand-held mobile phone or device for any reason while driving.

Mind Your Mobile Manners

  1. Respect others' privacy when using in-phone cameras. Please request for permission before you take someone’s picture.

  2. Don’t send inappropriate messages. Messaging is a great way to communicate, but don’t send offensive or threatening text, voice, picture or any other sort of message, because it is a criminal offence to use a mobile phone to menace or harass someone. Also receivers can save messages and easily identify you as the sender.

  3. Don't use loud and annoying ringtones that destroy concentration and eardrums.

  4. Tell callers when you're talking on a mobile, so they can anticipate distractions or disconnections.

  5. Never talk in elevators, libraries, museums, restaurants, cemeteries, theatres, dentist or doctor waiting rooms, places of worship, auditoriums or other enclosed public spaces, such as hospital emergency rooms or buses. Please set your phone to silent mode. Or, turn your phone off and remember to check it’s off before you enter a venue. You can always check your voice mail, text messages or your answering service afterwards. Ban the ring, not the phone.

  6. If, in error, you forget to put your phone on silent or vibrate mode and it rings at an inappropriate moment, the best course of action may be to switch off the ringer immediately or send the call to voice mail (usually by pressing the hang-up key).

  7. Never "multi-task" by making calls while shopping, banking, waiting in line or conducting other personal business.

  8. Never take a personal mobile call during a business meeting. This includes interviews and meetings with co-workers or subordinates.

  9. Maintain at least a 10-foot zone from anyone while talking. Keep your conversations private.

  10. Avoid ‘cell-yell’. Speak softly. And don't have any emotional conversations in public - ever. Be aware of where you are and who you are with and what others are doing before deciding to make or accept a call.
