Nawras Supports Omani Ventures

Nawras, the Sultanate's customer-friendly mobile operator is using its technology to assist the local community with a growing number of specifically selected sponsorship programmes including the exciting BBIC (Big Business Ideas Competition), the on-going e-Oman road show, and the Nawras Internet Café during Khareef Festival 2006.

E-Oman
Nawras has been sponsoring e-Oman since the start of the Government’s road show to major cities around the country. By lending its support, Nawras has not only helped in terms of financial contributions but also by demonstrating the enormous possibilities that technological tools can contribute to today’s successful Omani business ventures. By performing practical and accessible demonstrations of Nawras Business Solutions, local businessmen are able to experience the high-speed broadband Internet connection and Nawras Mobile Email, for themselves. Nawras has proved how easy it is for companies to get started with its tailor-made packages and shown how telecommunication technology can make a real and positive difference to the lives of people all over the Sultanate.

Mohamed Mubarak Al Hasani, Public Relations and Press Manager, said, “At Nawras we are selecting specific avenues to provide our support to society. And through the eOman initiative, we are helping to encourage people to use technology in their daily lives. As a consequence, we are really delighted that Nawras Internet is being used by the Information Technology Authority (ITA) during the road show to demonstrate to the public how they can utilize the mobile technology provided by Nawras to access the internet while on the move.”

Big Business Ideas Competition
The BBIC, organized by KOM (Knowledge Oasis Muscat), is an exciting new event and for a number of different reasons, Nawras is proud to be among the first to lend support to this project. The competition is aimed at young, entrepreneurial Omanis who are invited to submit their proposals for the initiation of new small businesses. Their ideas must demonstrate the use of technology, which leads to a natural link with Nawras, being the only operator to offer a wireless high-speed Internet connection in the Sultanate based on EDGE technology, and even better, one which can be connected within minutes.
Al Hasani added, “Nawras was keen to lend its support in terms of valuable prizes in monetary form to help the entrepreneurs start up their business and develop it from an idea to a tangible entity. Furthermore, Nawras will be donating prizes of free Internet usage and complimentary voice call time, invaluable tools to a new business in the throes of starting up.”

With more than 95% of Nawras Customer Service Champions and trainers being Omani, the company has already shown firm commitment to being an important contributor to development of employment opportunities in the Sultanate. Sponsorship of BBIC is a further enhancement of this goal, extending the parameters to a wider field. Nawras is delighted to encourage new business ventures that will in turn benefit many Omani young people and add value to local communities.

Nawras Internet Café
During this, its second year of participation at the Khareef Festival in Salalah, Nawras sponsored an Internet Café, in collaboration with Dhofar Municipality. Many festival goers experienced Nawras wireless highspeed Internet service for the first time and the feedback clearly illustrated the huge interest and enthusiasm for this new technology. A competition was run on a daily basis with the happy winner walking away with an attractive handset. With local and international visitor figures of approximately 250,000 to the region this year, Nawras now looks forward to playing its part at the next Khareef Festival in 2007 and welcoming an even greater number of visitors to experience the future with Nawras.

Al Hasani concluded, “As an Omani company Nawras is taking its corporate responsibility very seriously and is committed to playing an active and productive part in Omani society, taking a major role in serving the community.”
