Nawras launches SMS charity donation service

Nawras, the Sultanate’s most customer-friendly mobile operator, has announced the launch of new SMS charity donation service to its customers. An official ceremony to mark the occasion was organised under the auspicious of H.E. Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan Al-Busaidy, Under-secretary at the Ministry of Interior and Vice-President of Oman Charitable Organization (OCO) at the Nawras Ruwi Store. The event was attended by Nawras Chairman Sheikh Saif bin Hashil Al-Maskery, Nawras board members and other senior OCO and Nawras company representatives.

H.E. Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan Al-Busaidy, who used the opportunity to officially inaugurate the Nawras Ruwi Store, carried out a live demonstration in front of the local media by simply sending an SMS with the content Donate to the number 90095 and type the word Donate and received a confirmation SMS that said “Thank you for your donation of 199 bz + 10 bz SMS charge. The total amount of 209 bz will be passed on to Oman Charitable Organization. Nawras - Get Closer”

Speaking on the occasion Sheikh Abdullah bin Essa Al-Rawahy, Nawras Chief Technical Advisor commented, “At Nawras we are always looking for ways to use our superior mobile technology and services to serve our customers better and meet their needs. The soon approaching Holy Month of Ramadan is renown as a month of giving and sharing with those most vulnerable and needy in society, and we are proud to provide our customers with an easy and innovative way to make their charitable donations.”

Ms. Nashat Al-Riyami, Nawras Product Manager added, “We are delighted to extend our cooperation with the OCO through this new SMS charity donation service and are very happy to provide our contribution by donating the SMS charge fees of 10baisa per donation message to OCO. On a quarterly basis each year Nawras will present OCO a cheque with the total amount generated from the SMS donations from Nawras customers, with the first one coming at the end of Ramadan.” The technology for the service is provided through a by joint partnership between Nawras and its supplier Atchik-Realtime, a Franco-Danish Group, providing applications, services and portals for the mobile market and is considered a global leader within the area of mobile messaging.”
