Enjoy Nawras service all over the Sultanate from today
Oman’s leading mobile operator delivers on coverage promise

Nawras the leading mobile operator in Oman yesterday officially announced at a press conference held at Chedi Muscat Hotel, that it now provides mobile coverage all over the Sultanate. Nawras launched its commercial services two months ago and has already set new standards for mobile communications in Oman.

Mr. Cormack remarked, “We are extremely pleased to announce to the people of Oman that we now cover the Sultanate, from the northern-most region of Musandum to the southern-most region of Dhofar. We have achieved this success in such a short period of time through our ground-breaking agreement with Oman Mobile. This agreement allows Nawras customers to use Nawras services also in areas where we have not yet built our own coverage. Most importantly, customers can use this service at Nawras prices!“

He went on to add, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our valued customers who have helped Nawras to grow so fast. In addition, I would like to thank the patience of future customers who were waiting for us to provide them with national coverage. At launch we announced coverage for 60% of the population and we promised that shortly afterwards we would cover the vast majority of the Sultanate. With today’s announcement we once again show that we deliver on our promise, in our goal to bring the people of Oman closer together through mobile communications.”

Nawras was provided with national roaming through a partnership arrangement with Oman Mobile. Mr. Cormack added “In the first phase of the national roaming agreement between Nawras and its partner, Oman Mobile, Nawras customers can make and receive calls as well as send and receive SMS messages all over the Sultanate. In the second phase of the agreement, to be announced in the future, other services will be available including sending and receiving picture messages, downloading Nawras signature services such as games and ring tones from Nawras Zone and accessing the internet through GPRS technology.

National roaming will be available for Nawras customers wherever we do not have our own network coverage. He added ”Nawras would like our customers to experience our own first class network quality, as soon as possible so we are building our own network fast. In the areas where we already have coverage, including Muscat, Batinah, Salalah, Nizwa, Sohar and Sur, we will deliver the full Nawras experience over our own network. In order to ensure that we provide the best value to our customers, they will always be charged Nawras best value rates regardless of whether they use our own network or the partner network.

The roaming service will thus be available to all Nawras postpaid and prepaid customers including nawras Mousbak, Mousbak Plus and Ajel. In addition, incoming calls to Nawras customers roaming on our partner network is free of charge. Other services such as Caller Identification, Call Waiting, first call redirect to Customer Service for SIM activation and all types of recharging to nawras Mousbak accounts will be available for roaming Nawras customers when they are on national roaming.

Once a customer moves into an area where there is no Nawras coverage the mobile handset will search for the partner network and automatically activate Oman Mobile coverage. Once the customer is back in the Nawras network area the mobile handset will automatically be reconnected to the Nawras network. If a Nawras customer is on a call while moving out of the Nawras network and into the partner network, the call will be disconnected and the customer will need to re-dial as a roaming customer. If a Nawras customer is on a call while using the partner network and then moves into an area that has Nawras coverage, other than Muscat, the call will not be disconnected.

Since Nawras launched its commercial service on the 16th March 2005, the people of Oman has experienced a higher standard for mobile communications in Oman. Nawras was the first mobile company in Oman to redefine the customer experience across all aspect of mobile services. This included from what you buy, to how and where you buy it, from getting started, to using it, from getting help to paying. All in all, Nawras has revolutionised the whole customer experience. Nawras was first to have over 450 points of sales. Nawras stores have become a destination of choice, and a one stop shop for SIM-cards and handsets, with friendly sales service and advice backed up by caring support from our Customer Champions. Nawras was first to introduce free of charge activation and subscription for services including Voice Mail and itemised and easy-to-understand billing. Nawras is the only operator to launch EDGE to ensure the fastest mobile data speeds in the Sulanate. Nawras was first to revolutionise payment methods for customers with over 300 locations through partnership with Bank Muscat and Oman Arab Bank.

Tore Solberg, Nawras Marketing Director concluded, “Nawras aims to deliver the best customer experience to the people of Oman. This agreement gives our customers the best of both worlds: the most extensive coverage through both networks in Oman and the best value for both nawras Mousbak and Ajel (Prepaid and Postpaid) customers, as well as the benefit of our overall superior service and quality. Nawras is proud to deliver the Best Service, Best Quality and Best Value to the people of Oman-and from today-all over Sultanate!”
