Nawras took pleasure in extending its pleasingly different support to the recent Oman Media Awards ceremony, held under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahad al Said at Muscat’s InterContinental Hotel. Nawras sponsored the event for the second year running with the intention of helping to highlight the importance of this communication tool as well as lending encouragement to more young Omanis to enter this growing profession.

The award for the best Arabic Daily went to Al Shabiba while Oman Daily Observer won best English daily newspaper. Best Arabic reporter was won by Essa Ahmed Al Massoudi and best English reporter by David Solomon. The best foreign correspondent award was collected by Sunil K Vaidya.

Media representatives attended the award ceremony together with Omani dignitaries, top business executives and a Nawras team led by CEO Ross Cormack.

During his speech HH Kamil said, “Media is the greatest tool of communication, not only does it enlighten us, but has an important role of uniting and integrating people around the globe. It has a strong social and cultural impact and provides a doorway for the outside world to find out more about our beautiful country Oman.”

Through informal discussions after the event, Nawras CEO Ross Cormack spoke about the importance of the media, taking time to thank all those within the sector who have played an impressive role in spreading the word about this customer friendly company since it began transforming Oman’s mobile telecommunications landscape back in March 2005. Cormack gratefully noted that over the last five years the media has been instrumental in helping to communicate the many innovative products and services that Nawras customers are enjoying today.

Congratulating event organiser Saleh al Shaibany, managing director of creative press and publishing, Cormack stated, “Nawras is delighted to have supported the Oman Media Awards for the second year running. We hope that more young Omanis will find their talents nurtured in this sector and go on to pursue successful careers as they create the future of this important field.”

Nawras plays an active role in society in many different ways and is particularly keen to lend support to projects that can benefit the Sultanate’s young people as well as the further development of Oman.

Nawras, a Qtel Group company, covers 96% of the population with its reliable EDGE network and over 40% with its trusted 3G+ network.
