Nawras Goodwill Journey 5 concludes successfully with return to Muscat today

6th September 2009

Nawras is completing its fifth goodwill journey today after successfully accomplishing both phases over a period of two weeks. A reception party will be taking place this evening at the headquarters of Nawras in Al Athaiba under the kind patronage of Ibrahim bin Yahya Al Rawahi, Wali of Baushar. Senior management from the company and a large number of invitees and guests will be attending.

While attempting to convey the true meaning of Ramadan and by spreading a caring message throughout the Sultanate, Nawras has once again shown its commitment and compassion to boost the lives of people with special needs. The team of volunteers travelled in a convoy of nine vehicles, carrying a range of equipment needed by less fortunate people in the community.

The team left Ibri heading for the Association for the Welfare of Disabled Children in the wilayat of Yanqul in Al Dhahira region. They were received by the head of the association along with the children’s caretakers. Two large boxes with a mass of gifts inside were distributed to the delighted children. The Goodwill Journey team delivered donations of e-learning equipment including computers as well as books, dolls, cars, trucks, educational material and games. Hanaa, a blind but blessed girl, was gleefully singing while Safiya, a three-year-old girl with special needs, was joyfully playing with her new toys. Humeid was happy and hardly wanted to share his gifts while Sulaiman was so cheerful and thankful to receive the huge number of gifts. The team had lots of fun spending time and playing with the children and were humbled by the smiles seen on the children’s faces.

Expressing her appreciation, Nadia Al Alawi, head of the association, said: “This is the first visit of the Nawras Goodwill Journey to our association. It has provided us with all the necessary equipment like PCs, printers, chairs and tables for computers, digital cameras and music instruments, and much more. I am really thankful to Nawras for causing smiles to appear on our children’s faces.”

After visiting the wilayat of Yanqul, the nine Nawras vehicles loaned by Oman’s Audi distributor headed to Nizwa, where the team enjoyed a short rest before sharing iftar with Nawras CEO Ross Cormack and Abdulla Issa Al-Rawahy, chief strategy officer. Both gentlemen expressed their sincere appreciation of the efforts of the journey’s team in showing how Nawras is committed to the society and takes its values seriously.

“The Omani society is a supportive one and Nawras is honoured to have the opportunity to be cooperating with society in many different ways. The Goodwill Journey is the best proof of that. In fact, it represents the commitment that Nawras holds to encourage people to get closer through its social and humanitarian actions,” Al Rawahy said.

An evening event was organised by the Omani Women’s Association in the wilayat of Manah. The event included a number of entertainment programmes. More than 200 children participated in the Qaranqasho event organised by the association. Nawras donated a car for the association for its administrative use. It also provided a learning resource centre and a home theatre for screening learning and entertainment movies.

Sharing their experience of the Nawras Goodwill Journey, K. Khalid Al Brashdi from the finance department said: “This is my first participation in the journey. I am so glad to be a part of it. Nawras aims to help less fortunate people and I believe we are succeeding in our mission.”

Azzan Al Zedjali from customer service feels that the most precious moment he spent in his life is the time he spent with the disabled children. “When we gave those gifts and toys, the unbelievable happiness was all I could see.”

Sittie Haiffa, HR training administrator, also shared her experience in taking part in the Goodwill Journey. “In my home country of the Philippines, I have seen such a lot of problems with people with special needs. This is the reason why I really wanted to be involved with Nawras on this journey. We have met a lot of children with different problems. Some of them are deaf; others cannot speak. Yet by giving them gifts, we drew a smile on their faces and we could see how thrilled they were.”

Before reaching Muscat today, the team will deliver its donations to Al Wafa Centre in the wilayat of Dema wal Taeen.
