International Leadership Award For Nawras Team Leaders

As part of its ongoing commitment to foster and encourage talented Omanis, a second group of Nawras team leaders has recently embarked on the ILM Certificate in Team Leading, in a move designed to further develop and sharpen their leadership competency and skills. Nawras has partnered with the National Centre for Professional Development (NCPD), to deliver this qualification with a programme from the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), U.K. providing candidates with an internationally recognised, professional qualification.

Nawras Training Manager, Paul Walsh, explained, “The ILM qualifications have long been recognized as prestigious, international awards that develop the knowledge and skills of Leaders. Nawras, as the award-winning provider of mobile communications in the Sultanate, ensures that its leaders are as cutting-edge in people issues as its products and services are in technological areas.”

Alweya Ba-Alwi, a management trainee at the Nawras Store in Sur, attended the first programme and shared her impression of the experience by saying, “This course was excellent. It guided and supported me throughout the four months so that I was confident in implementing the leadership lessons learnt. It taught me how to be a better team leader. As the course progressed, I could see the improvements I was making and most importantly, Nawras and the team could also see the changes for the better. I have received good feedback on the improvements made in my leadership style."

Each programme comprises four modules with assessment standards independently verified by the ILM in London. Modules require participants to demonstrate high level skills learned or developed from the classroom teaching and, most importantly, display how the learning has been put into practice in the workplace.

Steve Champion, Director of Learning & Development representing NCPD, said "We are once again delighted to be working with Nawras on the Institute of Leadership and Management Certificate in Team Leading programme. The focus of the programme is enabling team leaders to develop their competencies so they can contribute much more to the organisation, which in turn leads to even better customer service.”

Training is carried out over a period of four months and after each module the students are required to prepare projects and assignments to put the learning received in the classroom back into the workplace.
