Nawras Presents Number Portability Success At Middle East Conference

Attending the Number Portability Middle East conference in Dubai this week, Shadli Al Abdulsalam, Nawras Product Manager for Business Solutions & MNP, addressed delegates on the subject of how Nawras has made the mobile number porting process such a success for customers in the Sultanate of Oman. The two-day conference was opened by Raymond Bouwman, Founder & Managing Director of Rabion Consultancy and the programme included speakers from telecom operators and regulatory authorities across the region. Nawras attracted particular attention for instigating the first mobile portability programme (MNP) in the GCC.

“It gave me great pride to speak on behalf of the successful number portability programme in Oman and to talk about the fact that to-date, nine out of ten customers who have decided to move operator while keeping their mobile number, have chosen to move to Nawras. During my presentation I emphasised the importance of making this process as smooth as possible so that customers truly have a viable choice. At Nawras, we have made every effort to accommodate this process and to help customers benefit from a smooth transition, within the guidelines and regulations for MNP in Oman.”

Number portability was introduced in the Sultanate on 26th August 2006 and gained high visibility thanks to the participation of Oman’s international goalkeeper and Nawras MNP Ambassador, Ali Al Habsi.

Customers wishing to move to Nawras from the other operator can do so easily through a straightforward process by simply settling their final account and visiting any Nawras Store within the following 24-hour period. The simple porting process then takes place and customers join this award-winning operator without needing to change their existing mobile number.

The conference examined the experience of Mobilink in Pakistan where MNP was introduced in March 2007 as well as discussing best practises for implementation and scrutinising different strategies used in the region and beyond. Nawras accepted the invitation to use this opportunity to showcase how successfully this process is carried out in the Sultanate and to illustrate how customers have benefitted from having a choice.

As Middle East Mobile Operator of the Year, Nawras is always interested to participate in such important regional gatherings that lead to the exchange of ideas and experiences that in turn benefit customers by enriching their mobile experience.

Nawras currently covers 96% of the population with its reliable world-class network, using national roaming where necessary and always with Nawras great value.
