Nawras Goodwill Journey convoy reached Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan

JAALAN BANI BU HASSAN -- In what has been cited as a sterling initiative, the third Nawras Goodwill Journey convoy reached Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan yesterday, after departing from Sur and travelling for what is called the lesson of goodwill, to many of the participants of the company dispensing much needed items to various associations and voluntary centres throughout the Sultanate.

The convoy, welcomed at the association under the auspices of Shaikh Saeed al Sawai, Representative of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, delivered aid at the Association for the Welfare of Handicapped Children, spending time with the handicapped children. The team delivered books, computers and toys as well as other educational materials in addition to having fun with the children of the association.

The children presented group songs and dances and also played a number of games like musical chairs, nine pins, bursting the balloons, and a modified version of basketball. It was such fun to see the Nawras Goodwill volunteers getting into the mood of the celebrations and joining in the fun and games with the children. Later, all the children were given individual gifts.

In his comment, Al Sawai emphasized the role of the private sector as well as that of individuals in supporting the cause of the handicapped. “Handicapped people must be given all opportunities to become relevant and useful members of the society with the ability to stand on their own feet as members of the community”.

Exhorting other companies, corporate and business houses to follow the example set by Nawras in caring for the community in this special way, he said they must make their contributions on a regular basis.

Speaking to the media personnel, Badriyya Ali al Mashrafiah, supervisor of the association said the computers would be used to familiarize the children in the use of computers and open up a window to what is happening in the world around them.

Appreciating the magnanimous gesture of Nawras in donating computers to the association, she said that their’s was a voluntary organization totally dependent on the goodwill, support and cooperation of private companies and bodies. “The number of computers given to us will enable us to set up a good computer lab.” She added all the persons working within the organization were volunteers. This is the first time that Nawras has come forward with such a large package of donations for the association.

With Nawras employees, the act of catering to the needy is a priority and in this regard, they deserve all praise for their brilliant performance on the journey, which has allowed them all to get to know each other and discuss what is good for the coming journeys.

Significantly, two women volunteers form part of the 24-member Goodwill team. Having taken time off from their regular duties as Nawras employees, the ladies spoke to the press about their experiences as part of the third Nawras Goodwill Journey.

Asked to give her opinion about the participation of women in the Goodwill Journey, Abla al Jahwari, Technical Team Assistant, said: “Women are an important part of society and it is therefore very essential to be a part of such a unique mission of goodwill which besides giving aid, also spreads a lot of hope, love and care”.

Elaborating further she said it was an excellent opportunity for “us to be a part of this journey, see so many different places and people, and be able to empathise with them by interacting at a personal level”.

Fatma Farouq Al Barwani, Administration Assistant, HR at Nawras said: “I feel it is our duty to help out in this very noble cause and find out about their problems and their needs by interacting with them directly”. She added that she has not only been a part of all the three Goodwill Journeys but is also a part of the organizing committee for this year’s trip.

She added that women are very good communicators and can easily connect with other women, especially with issues concerning women and children. “Besides, this is a wonderful duty to perform during the Holy Month of Ramadan”.

Volunteers of the Nawras Goodwill team said these journeys were extremely educational and gave the volunteers a chance to see the myriad beauties of Oman's countryside. For some of the volunteers it has been their first time to travel through, and discover, the Sultanate, all with the noble aim of helping those most in need during this most auspicious Holy Month.

They all agreed that it is important to understand the needs of those people in society who are less fortunate, and their requirements so that they can better assist them and make our society a better one for all.

From Jaalan, the convoy departed for Sinaw where they spent the night preparing for another long journey to Salalah via Al Jazar where they will deliver the donations to the Social Development Office in Al Wusta before concluding the first leg of tour in Salalah.
