Quriyat Goodwill Journey Day One

QURIYAT

The first phase of the Nawras Goodwill Journey 3 got off to a thrilling start at Quriyat, Tiwi and Wadi Attaim on Monday.

The donations covering electrical and electronic equipment for homes such as refrigerators, air-conditioners and washing machines plus furniture and other accessories, were handed over to the Wali’s Office, the Social Development Office and the Omani Women’s Association, for distribution.

The Wali’s office will follow certain norms and procedures to ensure that the donations are distributed in the proper manner.

At the Quriyat Wilayat office, Chief Guest Sayyed Ahmed Bin Hilal Al Busaidi, the Wali of Quriyat, welcomed the 24 team members of the Nawras Goodwill Journey and said that it was indeed a proud moment and a rare honour for the people of Quriyat.

Expressing his happiness and deep sense of appreciation, the Wali said this was certainly a very unique and noble gesture on the part of Nawras to touch the lives of people in such a generous manner.

The welcome ceremony for the Nawras Goodwill Journey team was attended by a large number of government officials, VIPs and distinguished guests.

Nawras Chief Commercial Officer Henrik Norgaard talking to the press said: “It is great to see how professional our team is and how they have reached out to work across the length and breadth of the country.”

Speaking about the kind of planning, logistics and the huge amount of organization that goes into such an enterprise, Norgaard said: “I am extremely proud of the way in which the whole Nawras Goodwill Journey 3 has been organized so smoothly and the experience of our past two trips has certainly helped us to do things with better results and in a more efficient manner.”

Nawras Chief Technical Officer Peter Rubeck was equally upbeat about the trip. “Considering that the journey is taking place just a few months after the devastation caused by unusual weather conditions, it is amazing to see that everything out here is back to normal and that our preparations have been so well organized.”

On a more personal note Rubeck said it was a great honour to be there as a part of the third Goodwill Journey. “Every trip is a beautiful experience and I really enjoy every moment of it; it is a wonderful adventure.”

Nawras Marketing Director Tore Solberg said: “Nawras’ job is to reach out to people. And here we are reaching out to those who need help and succour. This is the right time to reach out and help these people.”

Commenting on the Nawras Goodwill Journey he said: “It is certainly an incredible enterprise and I am very proud that we have the ability to do it.”

Later in a symbolic gesture, the Goodwill Journey team members visited the house of a resident in Quriyat and gave her a refrigerator, washing machine, air-conditioner and a carpet. They also helped to paint one room of her house.

Earlier at 8am, when the Nawras Goodwill Journey convoy of eight four-wheel drive cars set out from Muscat, the going within the city limits was rather slow on account of the heavy traffic on the roads. But once the convoy turned off the main highway, from Al Ameerat the going was very smooth.

It was a thrilling ride full of sharp bends, loops and turns, steep slopes winding in and around the mountains. The rugged, craggy mountains on all sides and the open countryside dotted with brush and scrub vegetation and date palms added to the stark beauty of the landscape, and the thrill and adventure of the Nawras Goodwill Journey.

Nawras, the Middle East Mobile Operator of the Year, has made such journeys an annual occurrence, at the onset of the Holy Month of Ramadan, with a convoy of Nawras vehicles transporting the caring Nawras Goodwill Journey volunteers, as they cover thousands of kilometres around the Sultanate in order to support charitable associations during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The objective of the Nawras Goodwill Journey is to raise awareness about the different charity organisations across the Sultanate and their noble cause in the society.

As Ramadan is known as the month of giving to the less fortunate in society, the Nawras Goodwill team comprising of 24 Nawras employees split into two groups, from various departments within the company, will travel in eight Nawras branded 4WD cars throughout the Sultanate.

The Nawras team members will provide charity organisations with suitable donations, and will also visit and spend time with less fortunate ones in the society, to better understand their needs and the function of the entities supporting them.

Nawras is proud to be an integral part of Omani society with the Nawras Goodwill Journey reflecting this close involvement with the community. It has adopted a leadership role in many areas, in terms of retaining strong corporate social responsibility goals. Its commitment to these is as strong as ever.

Nawras is once again getting closer to those in need through the volunteers of the Nawras Goodwill Journey 3, showing just how much they care while visiting, before leaving behind donations and delight in their footprints, which will remain as a deep-rooted impression within the communities at each point of call.

The journey initiated by Nawras employees themselves and thankfully, receiving both the green light and subsequent support from management, has also allowed participants to get to know each other better and to see for themselves the genuine kindness that exists.

The joyful event was attended by a number of officials, Nawras Board Members, senior management and employees, together with representatives of different national charity organisations.

At the same time as the Nawras Goodwill Journey team members spread happiness and compassion around the country during Ramadan, Nawras is also taking the time to remind customers that they can easily support the Oman Charitable Organisation without travelling anywhere.

Donations can be made by simply sending an SMS with the word ‘DONATE’ to the number 90095. For each SMS sent, Bz 209 will be given to the OCO to provide assistance for those most in need. Nawras will not be making any charges for these SMS.
