NAWRAS SPONSORS THE BIG BUSINESS IDEA COMPETITION

Nawras, the Sultanate’s customer friendly communications provider, is proud to be sponsoring the Big Business Idea Competition for the second consecutive year. Designed to encourage innovative ideas for technology driven business, it is an ideal platform for Nawras to be involved in, with the mobile telecommunications company being well-known for its creativity and employing the latest technology through its world class network.

Peter Arthur Honore has been attending the opening events for this year’s competition and commented, “This competition is a very valuable chance for entrepreneurs to address an influential audience with their ideas. Nawras is delighted to be encouraging such an initiative and looks forward to watching new start-ups flourish under the umbrella of expertise gathered together for this competition. On behalf of everyone at Nawras, I would like to convey good wishes to all the entrants and I trust they will all benefit from this competition and go on to enjoy future success with their respective projects.”

Nawras is always keen to play a responsible role in the community and sees this competition as a valuable opportunity to help pave the way for the new generation of businesses, believing that from small and often humble beginnings, inspiring new ideas can arise. As businesses are successful and expand, employment prospects grow and this generates a very positive knock-on affect for the Omani economy as a whole.

Hussein Al Fadhill, Nawras Sponsorship Manager, said, “Nawras was keen to sponsor the BBIC again, as a part of its ongoing commitment in the area of corporate social responsibility, actively supporting the local community and in particular, adding value to the younger members of the Sultanate’s population. Last year was a tremendous success and we are looking for even greater results this time.”

Lending its expertise and guidance to the competition, Nawras will be conducting a series of workshops to be held at the end of August, in conjunction with Ericsson. The duo of dynamic companies will be looking to advise and inspire those attending, through a series of practical examples of successful business experiences.

Nawras is a good example of a company thriving with innovative ideas, having totally transformed the mobile communications landscape in the Sultanate by changing what people buy, where they buy, how they get help and how they pay. The company encourages its people to be creative and operates an open environment to stimulate ideas and facilitate productive and fast communication. Nawras has delivered on its promise to give customers pleasingly different service and in doing so, has become the fastest growing family in Oman.

The competition is seeking to encourage technology driven business and Nawras customers enjoy an excellent quality of communication thanks in no small measure, to the employment of the latest technology through its world class network. Regularly benchmarked against 100 other Ericsson networks worldwide, the Nawras Network is placed amongst the top ten and achieves the number one position in three key performance indicators. The reliability and stability of the network technology was tested recently with the severe weather conditions. It came through with flying colours.

The BBIC is open to all nationals, whether entering as individuals or team efforts. It is expected to attract entrepreneurs, business people, academics and students. The deadline for entry is 9th September, by which time a business plan needs to have been submitted. The four best plans will be presented during a gala dinner on the 22nd October 2007.

Nawras is supporting the BBIC as part of its corporate social responsibility role, which sees the company supporting a wide variety of groups within the community. Most recently, Nawras assisted the Ministry of Education by providing mobile Nawras Internet for higher education online enrolment purposes. In assisting students without internet access, Nawras has perhaps aided the initial steps of many would-be entrepreneurs of the future!

Nawras currently covers 96% of the population with its world-class network, using national roaming where necessary and always with Nawras great value.
