NAWRAS CEO ADDRESSES INTERNATIONAL TELECOM SUMMIT

Nawras, the Sultanate’s customer friendly communications provider, joined influential thought provoking telecom leaders and practitioners for the ‘connect international telecoms summit’ held recently in Dubai. The event which was attended by hundreds of delegates, involved more than 27 speakers from 14 countries.

Nawras CEO Ross Cormack took a leading part in the busy conference appearing on two fascinating panels. Chaired by Dr. Karim Sabbagh, Partner and Vice President of Booz Allen Hamilton, UAE, the first panel discussed issues related to ‘International Growth by Acquisitions and Winning New Licenses’, which was an opportunity for Cormack to talk about the great strides taken recently by Nawras’ major shareholder Qtel. He explained that Qtel’s acquisition of Wataniya Telecom was described as the ‘biggest ever telecommunications deal in the Arab world’ and is expected to give Qtel an increasingly important role in the MENA region, which in turn is giving Nawras customers the benefits associated with being part of such a dynamic company with such vast resources.

Describing the second panel, Cormack put the spotlight firmly and enthusiastically on Nawras as he debated ‘Innovation and Leadership in Telecoms’ with fellow senior telecom experts Mawan Zwaydeh, CTO Warid Telecoms (Pakistan and Africa), Rory Macmillan, Managing Partner, Macmillan & Co. (Switzerland), Ali Salama, CFO of Telecom Egypt together with other leading commentators and top management within the industry.

Under the title of ‘Speed Building A Successful Company’ Cormack illustrated how Nawras has transformed the telecommunications landscape in Oman, citing examples from before launch, throughout the first few months and right up to the success story Nawras is recognised as today. “I am always proud to recall the incredible way that most of our professional launch workforce of 250 had never worked in a mobile company before and yet, having quickly grown in stature, Nawras now employs more than 470 of the finest mobile professionals anywhere. By listening to customer feedback and designing products and services accordingly, Nawras has transformed the telecommunications landscape in Oman, changing what people buy, where they buy, how they pay and how to get help.

Cormack highlighted the excellent quality Nawras is able to provide through its world class network operating the widest coverage in the Sultanate. He spoke about the more than 700,000 customers who make up the fastest growing family in Oman and explained that Nawras has always put customers first and at the very core of every decision made.

Cormack explained that Nawras offers great value, with competitive rates including the lowest rate of just Bz19 per minute to call from one Nawras customer to another. Travelling abroad is smooth with Nawras offering 247 international roaming partners in 127 countries and fully transparent price plans shown on the company’s website. He pointed out that Nawras offers customers 58 data roaming partners, being the first and only operator in Oman to provide data roaming.

Explaining the pleasingly different service that Nawras offers, Cormack gave the example of the Nawras Rewards programme, a unique and instant way that the company says thank you to all its customers (prepaid and postpaid), through discounts and special offers given by more than 45 partners, covering areas as diverse as dining, services, health and beauty, leisure, and automotives.

He concluded by describing the way Nawras is caring and has become an integral part of society, supporting events like the annual Khareef Festival in Salalah by setting up a Nawras Internet café, taking part in Comex, sponsoring the Muscat Festival and organising the Goodwill Journey to benefit those less fortunate in the community. Most recently, Nawras has provided mobile Nawras Internet connections for the Ministry of Sports to allow students to register on-line for the Summer Sports programme and also to the Central Admissions Centre, enabling thousands of students to conveniently register on-line for their higher educational needs.

Continuing to be the fastest growing family in Oman, Nawras is as committed as ever to listen to customers, designing new products and services accordingly whilst maintaining an unwavering dedication to deliver great value, pleasingly different service and excellent quality.
