Nawras sponsors two very different cultural projects

Nawras, the Sultanate’s customer friendly communications provider, has sponsored two quite different events, namely: ‘Connecting Cultures Expedition’ into the Empty Quarter taking place in February 2007 and ‘Aspects of Oman’s Architectural Heritage’, an exhibition by Spencer Tart which opened at Bait Al Muzna Gallery on 7th November and will run until 23rd November 2006. The demonstration of support for these ventures is indicative of the diverse social corporate responsibility programme operated by Nawras, as this successful company plays its part in society.

Connecting Cultures is a modern adventure in the making, a life-enriching experience for a selected group of young people from Oman, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Jordan, Fiji and Pakistan. Travelling into the Empty Quarter, they will spend time exchanging ideas, comparing the differences and similarities of their respective daily lives and cultures, in a bid to better understand one another and enrich their respect for different points of view. Walking in the Sharqiya Sands using camels for transportation of basic supplies, this expedition will also accentuate the fascinating contrast between Nawras at the cutting edge of communication technology on the one hand and on the other, the desert, where life often simply struggles to exist.

“We have pleasure in supporting this initiative”, explained Nawras Press and Public Relations Manager, Mohamed Mubarak Al-Hasani. “We believe that Nawras is the ideal example of a multicultural place of work, where teams comprised of many nationalities combine their expertise to generate success. Nawras is a perfect example of a company with employees originating from different societies and cultures, all working happily and productively together, resulting in a sophisticated Omani telecommunications company that has helped to changed the telecommunications landscape in the Sultanate.

Nawras is also very pleased to lend support to Spencer Tart’s first Omani exhibition, a series of watercolours depicting the culture of the Middle East. Including a fascinating record of the architectural heritage of the Sultanate, the exhibition was inaugurated by H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salim Al Rowas, Minister of Regional Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources. An architect by training, Spencer Tart has established himself as a well-known watercolour artist, inspired by the different architectural styles and spectacular geographical features of the region.

“At Nawras, we are looking to diversify our sponsorship activities and not concentrate all our efforts on one particular area,” said Mohamed Mubarak Al-Hasani. “There are many different sections of society that would like us to be involved with them and for that reason, we are supporting a wide range of activities to benefit as many people as possible. We are very pleased to sponsor this exhibition and proud to play a part in preserving the past, whilst leading the future of telecommunications in Oman.”
