Nawras Caravan visits Adam

Nizwa: The Second Nawras Goodwill Journey visited the Women’s Association in Adam, which is around 60kms from here yesterday.

A number of items including sewing machines; furniture for the office and classrooms of the association; computers; air conditioners etc were distributed in the presence of Abdullah bin Salim Al Ghailani, Wali of Adam.

Children received toys and gifts at the association which is located on the western edge of the wilayat of Adam at the foothills amidst a cluster of social houses.

The sewing machines are expected to be utilised in starting of tailoring classes for the women and make them self sufficient.

The Nawras Goodwill Journey is a noble gesture by Nawras during the Ramadan period to reach out to the charitable and voluntary associations by touring the length and breadth of the Sultanate in a convoy of vehicles carrying with them stuff that is being donated to various associations who need help and support.

The children at the Adam Women’s Association presented a cultural programme for the guests prior to the donation function beginning with the national anthem and other Arabic poetry and songs.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah bin Salim Al Ghailani, Wali of Adam was happy that Nawras donated the needy items for the women’s association and congratulated the mobile telephone company for taking up this humanitarian task.

“The Nawras Goodwill Journey during the time of Ramadan is a very good idea and it will benefit the voluntary associations if other companies also emulated Nawras,” Abdullah said.

Aseelah bint Mohammed Al Mahrooqi, the manager of the woman’s association in Adam highlighted the fact that the Nawras gesture is welcome because the items like the sewing machines that have been donated will help many of the women to become independent and earn money.

“The children are very happy with the toys and the adults are extremely grateful to Nawras for the donations and gifts. So we really want to thank Nawras for helping us,” Aseelah said.

From Adam, the Nawras Goodwill Journey speeded away to Bahla via Nizwa for night halt and change of crew and media members.

Top officials of Nawras including Ross Cormack CEO and other dignitaries also arrived at Bahla for a special programme. The whole Goodwill Journey team visited the cultural village in Bahla for a special Iftar dinner.

The cultural village transports you back in time to another era, to witness how life would have been in another age, a life of tents and camels, a harsh but hardy life.

Today morning, the Goodwill Journey will visit the voluntary care centre in Bahla accompanied by Ross Cormack, the CEO and other officials, and will later proceed to Buraimi and Mahdah wilayats.

Meanwhile, a light entertainment programme was also held at the Nawras office in Nizwa on Saturday night as part of the Ramadan activities which was attended by a large gathering of people. The programmes, which included magic show, quiz programme and comedy drama show, were well received by the audience.
