Nawras donates Minibus to Women's Association in Mahout

Impressions and expectations share the same side of the coin in life and often jostle for space and attention.

The Second Nawras Goodwill Journey scored on both counts among the people when it touched base at the Mahout Women's Association yesterday afternoon bringing with it the message of sharing is caring which is in focus during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The Nawras team gave a pleasant surprise to the Women's Association in Mahout by donating a school minibus among other things. It is hoped that this would become a vehicle of hope and development for the children who need to commute between home and school especially during the hot months of the year.

Besides the bus, a number of other items which included computers, fax machines and sewing machines, were also handed over to the Women's Association, which is only a month old. The kindergarten children also got their share of happiness in the form of toys and learning tools.

The Second Nawras Goodwill Journey Caravan had bid farewell to the mountainous and fertile Dhofar Governorate, hitting the road from Salalah in the wee hours of Wednesday and embraced the stark sandy desertscape of the Al Wusta region.

After a long hard drive of over eight hours, Mahout was no more a mirage in the desert for the parched souls of the Nawras team. The joy on the faces of the members of the Women's Association both children and adults more than satisfied the physical pangs of hunger and fatigue.

The Nawras Goodwill Journey is a noble gesture by Nawras during the Ramadan period to reach out to the charitable and voluntary associations by touring the length and breadth of the Sultanate in a caravan of vehicles carrying with them stuff that is being donated to various needy associations.

Maiya bint Saif Al Maharbi who heads the Women's Association appreciated the initiative by Nawras to help the charitable organisations and was happy about the items donated by Nawras. Maiya's joy knew no bounds when she learnt about the bountiful gift in the form of the minibus.

Mohammed Al Hasani, media communications head of Nawras said that the objective this time around is to uplift the little known volunteer and charity organisations like the Mahout Women's Association which has been newly formed.

Behind all successful ventures are the people who handle logistics. If the Women's Association of Mahout is thrilled with the bus donated by Nawras, it was not a joy ride for the men who had to arrange for the bus to be brought to Mahout.

Khalid Said Al Minji, Procurement Specialist of Nawras for this Goodwill Journey, has been incharge of all the procurements on this Second Nawras Goodwill Journey to ensure a smooth 'off-road' experience for the Journey at all the stops.

Khalid's job is to ensure that all the necessary items that have to be donated reach the appointed place at the appointed time before the convoy and its members.

"The pleasure we get in doing social service takes away the fatigue we experience while covering the long distances," Khalid said.

Worry and tension may crease his forehead sometimes thinking about whether the goods have been delivered but this quickly is replaced with excitement over yet another 'mission accomplished'.
