Nawras Announces Second Ramadan Goodwill Journey

Nawras, the Sultanate's customer-friendly communications provider held a press conference yesterday evening, at the Oman Auditorium, Al Bustan Palace Hotel, to announce the launch of the second Nawras Ramadan Goodwill Journey across the Sultanate. Under the patronage of H.E Dr. Sharifah bint Khalfan bin Nassir Al Yahyaeyah, Minister of Social Development, the event was attended by a number of officials, Nawras Board members, representatives from different national charity organizations, Nawras senior management and employees.

The key objective of the evening was to highlight the start of the ‘Nawras Goodwill Journey 2’ as an important opportunity to raise awareness of the different charity organizations operating so resourcefully throughout the Sultanate, and to draw attention to the honourable causes they support. For the second year running, Nawras employees will be travelling in a convoy of Nawras vehicles, visiting a number of charity organizations and lighting up the lives of those less fortunate in our society by distributing gifts and assistance to them.

Nawras CEO, Ross Cormack, said, “Nawras is dedicated to maintaining an exemplary social corporate responsibility role, repeatedly showing support for projects in order to underline the long-term involvement and commitment felt by the company’s employees and management. The aim is that with each successive year, the goodwill from Nawras will be experienced with greater impact throughout the Sultanate. Last year, I was so thrilled to see the tremendous joy on the faces of the recipients of our gifts and at the same time to witness the Nawras team members being uplifted by their joy. I felt privileged to be a part of such a wonderful experience”.

Speaking at the launch yesterday, Masooma Al Saleh, Director of Early Intervention for Children with Special Needs, commented, “I am so happy to know that Nawras is intending to launch the second Goodwill Journey. When I saw the efforts and finance contributed by Nawras last Ramadan, I wondered whether the company would ever repeat the Goodwill Journey. Today I am very happy that not only has Nawras launched the second Goodwill Journey but it appears that it will have even greater impact this Ramadan, than before.”

The efforts of all those involved in the Nawras Goodwill Journey 1 were very warmly welcomed by the recipients throughout the country. Salim Al Mahrooqi, Director of the Social Development Department in Wilayat Haima, Al Wusta, said, “The unique thing about the Nawras Goodwill Journey is that it is not targeted at a particular region, instead all the regions in the Sultanate are covered and benefit from this Journey. Not a lot of companies will think and act like Nawras but I wish that other companies would take their social responsibility roles as seriously and follow in the steps of Nawras.”

The initial Goodwill Journey started with the convoy travelling to the Wilayat of Khasab in the Governorate of Musandam and after visiting all the regions of the Sultanate, returned to Muscat on the 1st November 2005. Employees, who took part in the project, have expressed a keen willingness to participate once again. They are looking forward to playing their parts, giving back to society, particularly during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Khalid Al Zadjali, Nawras Events and Sponsorship Manager, who led the Nawras Goodwill Journey last year, commented, “I am very proud to be part of a company that really cares about others. Leading and supervising the Nawras Goodwill Journey last year was a challenging task. At the time when most people would love to stay at home and be with their families, we were travelling all over the Sultanate, donating to charities, spending our time with the less fortunate in society. We were so happy to do that and this year I can feel and see that all of those who participated in the first Goodwill Journey would love to repeat the experience.”

Nasra Al-Jenaibyah, Billing Department, said, “The main goal of the Goodwill Journey was a humanitarian one, which was to extend a helping hand to the needy. The journey was one of the best things that ever happened to me personally. There were moments that affected me deeply when I saw how much people really needed help. There were also moments that made me very happy when I saw smiles on the faces of children we gave gifts to. It was a very moving time. I hope the Goodwill Journey will continue for years to come and that others will follow suit. It is a great way to be close to the community like our ‘Get closer’ slogan says.”

In order to show that corporate social responsibility is taken seriously at Nawras, the company has taken the lead in contributing and participating in community related activities. The Ramadan Goodwill Journey is a good example but lesser known activities like the recent ‘Help the people of Lebanon’ humanitarian SMS campaign are also important. As an Omani company Nawras aims to take a major role in serving the community, not just locally but also on a wider regional scale.
